    MSPE At the Capitol

MSPE REPRESENTS PEs AT THE CAPITOL

Bruce Wylie represented MSPE interests during Important legislative hearings twice IN March.  He testified at a hearing on a bill to update the SAVE Coalition’s statutes to include local building code officials. These local building officials are usually involved in emergency response after a natural disaster like a tornado or earthquake.  MSPE member and past president, Ben Ross, PE, a member of the SAVE Coalition, gave testimony supporting the statute changes in HB 1863 sponsored by Rep. Bart Korman, PE, PLS, and also an MSPE member.  AIA, MSPE and ACEC Missouri testified in support of the bill.  There was no opposition.

Also, Wylie testified in support of SB 1028 by Sen. Silvey. This legislation supports the investor-owned utilities in Missouri:  Ameren, KCPL, and Empire District Electric, in their effort to more easily invest in the upgrades to the electric grid to bring it up to 21st century standards.  The engineering profession in all areas of practice with our high technology needs, rely on a constant and cyber secure electric system.  This legislation had considerable opposition as well as support and took four hours to complete.  MSPE Talking Points given at the hearing.
