The MSPE Educational Foundation Building

On July 13, 1994, Kansas City civic leader Jerome Cohen and his wife, Jeannette, donated the building and property at 200 East McCarty Street in Jefferson City, Missouri to the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers Educational Foundation, Inc.

By gutting the facility, the professional design/construction team of Pellham, Phillips, Hagerman of Springfield, Missouri and Ludwig Associates of Jefferson City transformed the building's plain and unassuming original structure into a design that projects the technical and professional image of engineering in a classic way.

This engineering headquarters building houses the state offices of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers and the American Council of Engineering Companies of Missouri on its main level. The lower level provides office space for the Missouri Community College Association.

The donation of a building is an asset to further the purpose of the MSPE Educational Foundation, which was established January 15, 1968 under the General Not for Profit Corporation Law, Chapter 355 RSMo, as a way for the member engineer or their family to make charitable contributions to the profession.

The building is currently for rent on the lower level. Please contact Greg Braden Greg@BHLandassociates.com for more information!

The Foundation Activities

  • Fund a MSPE Chapter Grants Program to promote STEM activities with community
  • To promote the study of engineering through quality STEM programs like the highly-acclaimed MATHCOUNTS, Project Lead the Way and FIRST Robotics programs for K-12 grades.  See our STEM PAGE !
  • To develop sound investment strategies and enable the building to become a revenue producing asset while encouraging and enhancing access to excellent engineering education curriculums and successful engineering careers.

Donations and estate planning for the MSPE Educational Foundation are welcome from members, their families or friends, supporters of the foundation, firms with an interest in the engineering profession and corporate foundations and trusts. You may earmark your contribution to be applied directly to our MATHCOUNTS or to the general fund with all contributions ultimately benefiting all facets of the Educational Foundation activities. Please contact the MSPE office for more information.

Make a Tax-Free Gift from your IRA

You may be eligible to make a tax-free gift to the MSPE Educational Foundation from your individual retirement account (IRA).

While many donors have taken advantage of this opportunity in the past to transform lives though technology, it’s official: the IRA charitable rollover law has been officially reinstated in 2015 and will remain in effect beyond.

This past Friday, Congress passed the Charitable IRA Rollover provision permanently. This enables individual retirement account (IRA) owners in the United States over the age of 70½ to transfer to qualifying charities – including the MSPE Educational Foundation – up to $100,000 per year from their IRA, which counts toward one’s required minimum distribution for the year while at the same time avoiding being taxed. What a way to support MSPE and MSPE Educational Foundation AND maximize the impact of your IRA!

At MSPE Educational Foundation, we know that philanthropy is personal. We also know that, for many, a strategic financial approach to philanthropy can maximize impact while also supporting your personal financial goals. If you’ve been waiting to make your IRS transfer this year, you’ll need to act now and request the distribution in order to qualify for the 2018 tax year.

  • If you are 70½ or older, you can give up to $100,000 directly from your IRA to charities like the MSPE Educational Foundation. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you still benefit even if you do not itemize your tax deductions.
  • If you have not taken your required minimum distribution for the year, your IRA charitable rollover gift can satisfy all or part of that requirement.
  • The transfer may be made in addition to any other charitable giving you have planned.
  • The gift needs to be made by Dec. 31, 2018, if you want your gift to qualify this year.

If you are interested in this unique opportunity to promote the goals of the MSPE Educational Foundation and support the MSPE professional community, or if you have any questions, please contact travis@mspe.org or call 573-636-4861.
