Synopsis: Lee’s Summit owns and operates a municipal airport (LXT) which serves the Kansas City area as a designated reliever airport. The City adopted an Airport Master Plan in 1998 and has been working towards implementation of that plan. The expansion of the airport was not always welcomed by the community, and Lee’s Summit often struggled to move forward. In recent years, the airport has begun to be seen as more of a business center and economic development tool which helped set the course for a number of airport improvements. The last four years for the airport have been very busy with almost $30M of improvements including runway and taxiway enhancements.
Bios: Bob Hartnett is currently serving as the Deputy Director of Public Works Admin/Operations for the City of Lee’s Summit, MO with oversight responsibilities over airport activities. He has been working on airport improvements since his first day of work with Lee’s Summit in 1979. He has been active in professional associations including serving on the executive committees of the local chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA), and currently serves as Chairman of the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors and Professional Landscape Architects.
