Topic: Engineering Ethics - Kansas City Skywalk Collapse
Until the events of 9/11, the skywalk collapse at the former Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kansas City, MO was the most devastating structural failure ever in the U.S. in terms of loss of life and injuries—and the cause was a direct result of engineers who violated their ethical code. Listen to the story behind this engineering disaster and learn how two engineers behaved with “conscious indifference” toward their professional duties resulting in the death of 114 people and the injury of another 216 people. The lessons of the skywalk collapse remain relevant to today’s engineers and architects.
Registration closes at 5:30 pm, Friday, October 18th, 2019.
