Abstract:
On June 10, 2021, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) signed a final rule to extend the effective date of the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions to December 16, 2021. This will also extend the revised Lead and Copper Rule compliance deadline to October 16, 2024, to ensure that drinking water systems have the full three years provided by the Safe Drinking Water Act to take actions needed for regulatory compliance. Any changes are expected to be more protective of public health.
American Water is continuing with development and execution of plans in advance of final compliance dates.
The purpose of the presentation is to provide the water industry with a general overview of the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions by focusing on six key areas of the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions: Identify Areas Most Impacted, Strengthen Treatment, Replace Lead Service Lines, Increase Sampling Reliability, Improve Risk Communication, and Better Protect Children. All focus areas lead to more effective and enforceable public health protection.
